The inspiration behind “Mystical Messengers” beautiful Spiritual Meditating Crystal Healing disc came from learning all about the benefits of Yoga and in particular the Lotus Position.
So what does the lotus position represent?
Many of its meanings include enlightenment, renewal, rebirth, purity, beauty and spiritual wealth, to name a few.
The Lotus Pose, or Padmasana, is an extremely powerful pose, especially for women and is a wonderful example of a pose that connects the mind, body, and spirit. This gentle pose is one that create deep change within us.
The pose is said to increase circulation in the lumbar spine, nourish and tone the abdominal organs, strengthen the ankles and legs, and increase flexibility in the hips.
You may have heard yoga teachers talk about holding emotions in our hips and wonder what that really means. This has a lot to do with stress and how our body reacts to it.
When our body perceives a threat, it initiates the fight or flight response. It today’s world, a threat can be anything from a looming deadline at work, to an argument with a partner, to a traumatic situation. When this reaction occurs, the body becomes tense, and much of that tension is in the hips.
Issues arise when we are on constant high alert as many of us today can lead stressful lifestyles and never release that tension. The result is years of built up stress, anger, sadness, or guilt — all stored in our hips.
The Lotus Pose allows us to undo years of damage and begin to release those emotions. Letting emotional damage come to the surface can be painful, but it is undoubtedly more healthy for our bodies and minds in the long run
Connecting to the Root Chakra
The chakras are the seven energy centres in the body that are connected to our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
The Root Chakra, located at the base of the spine is connected to our basic human instincts, like fear and survival. It is also tied to our body image, feeling grounded, our physical health, feelings of isolation, and desire for money and material possessions.
When our Root Chakra is off balance, we can feel angry, depressed, fatigued, and even constipated.
When our Root Chakra is balanced, we feel safe and secure in our lives, happy in our jobs, connected to our community, and present in each moment. There are lots of ways to help balance this chakra, including seated yoga poses.
Balancing the Root Chakra is about finding balance in life, so that our morals, thoughts, and ideals of a happy life match our actions and behaviours.
When we sit in Lotus, the base of our spine is pressed firmly into the mat. With this, we physically root ourselves into the earth and find a sense of grounding. From here, we can do the mental and emotional work to determine what is stopping us from that sense of grounding in our lives.
The chakras come from an ancient tradition that is linked with the science and practice of yoga.
The chakras are gateways between different dimensions where the activity of one connects and plays on another. They are symbolic patterns of our own mental and physical programming.
Chakras can be open or closed, excessive or deficient. For example, the Root Chakra is grounding. If your Root Chakra is deficient you may find it difficult to be still and always be on the go and if your Root Chakra is excessive, you may be a slow mover, be stuck, or clingy.
If this is the case, the chakra needs healing by uncovering and removing whatever is blocking it so that it can generate or receive energy on that particular plane.
How our chakras are programmed is largely down to repeated patterns from our actions in daily life. These chakras are affected by programming from our parents and culture, our physical bodies, situations we are born into, and information from previous lives.
Maintaining good chakra health is important because ultimately our chakras govern the amount of activity and complexity we can effectively handle at any given level.
